Most likely we will never be able to see city skies entirely free from artificial light and atmosphere pollution. Not anymore. That is history.
Photographer Thierry Cohen brought peace to the ever buzzing cities by digitally mixing two worlds into one. The natural beauty of desolate and untouched galaxies and shooting stars, free from man-made influences.., and its polluted urban counterpart.
These beautiful images create a reminder for us to savor the moments in a mile-a-minute city lifestyle.

When were these pictures taken?
What happened in them?
And what happened to the people in them?
Where are they now?
Are they still alive?

Beautiful moments of suspense, created by photographer Glen Luchford. Our imagination is running wild...

What happened to us..? Where did our creativity go..?

A project that caught our eye a few years back, suddenly enters our current thought processes again, while brainstorming about messages and their carriers. People that still know how to use a journal or send a handwritten postcard, will recognize the romance of this project, and the feeling of suspense it carries.

The process of the 1000 journal project is a mix of a message in a bottle (not knowing where in the world it will end up), and the "exquisite corpse" technique used by the surrealists. This technique is based on an old parlor game and requires that each participant write or draw on a sheet of paper, fold it to conceal their work, then pass it to the next participant. The end result is a product of the group's collective consciousness.

Someguy, the artist and project creator behind 'The 1000 journals project', had no idea if the journals would ever return. Each journal being sent into the world for people to express themselves in and pass it on, grew his feeling of anxiety, a fear that he would never see that journal again. Always followed by hope though, imagining the lives it might touch and the journey it would take.

People used the journals to express their personal sorrow, anger or love, to leave some inspirational advise, or to just leave their mark.

In the meanwhile, Someguy published a book showcasing some of the 1000 journals' content, still not sure whether all 1000 would return to him one day. There might still be some traveling around, inspiring people and holding people's secrets. Some might never return.

In this dance performance by Kagemu it's the play between the predator and the prey that keeps you in agonizing suspense during the entire show.

Black Sun is a meticulously choreographed projection of motion graphics onto dance, made in 2010, combining traditional and modern elements of Japanese culture and martial arts.
Artist Nobuyuki Hanabusa and dancer Katsumi Sakakura, together known as Kagemu, have since been widely imitated by others.

In 2012 the two performers have decided to continue their careers as solo artist.

Tilleke Schwarz's work could be interpreted as visual poetry. It's an embroidered mixture of contemporary influences, graffiti, icons, texts and traditional images from old embroidery samplers. Her work contains narrative elements, but never complete stories, with a beginning, a storyline, and an end. Her narrative structures are used as a form of communication with the viewer.
The viewer is invited to decipher connections or to create them. The viewer may assemble the stories and produce chronological and causal structures. Actually the viewer might step into the role of the "author".

We think Tilleke creates some beautiful 'moments of suspense' by doing that. And while we loose ourselves making free interpretations of her embroideries and making up our own story lines, we dream of what 'might' and 'will'.

Tilleke has self published a new book about her work, called New Potatoes. Contact her at info@tillekeschwarz.com for more information or if you like to order.

The artist Izzyana Suhaimi from Singapore creates a mix of fashion and modern art, which we can not help but fall in love with. Ancient techniques used to recall memories of her mother, grandmother and culture, used on modern day sketches. Very inspiring for a new project Bird & Prey is working on.

There are a lot of photo-manipulators out there that call themselves artists. While Matt Wisniewski actually IS one, without calling himself as such. For Matt it seems to be pretty self-explanatory..: he takes two different things and creates a harmony between the two.
Simple masking techniques take place but his placement of these photos is truly unique, it almost feels natural that a rock grows from a shoulder and waves replace swinging hair. Something only a real artist can do.

Matt is self-taught collage artist born in 1990 in Philadelphia currently based in Brooklyn, NY. For most of his life, he has been experimenting with various artistic media. He is fascinated by the creative imagery on display in the web which he is also part of. Currently, he is finishing up a computer science degree at the Rochester Institute of Technology and is working as a web developer. In his free time, he speaks his dreams through poetic collages.

"Portraitist of the subconsciousness". Quite a big title yatzer.com gives Wisniewski.
Matt himself seems to take it from a more airy angle..:
Yes, he believes in dreams..:
"Ideas have to come from somewhere."
No, his work is not spiritual..:
"I don't have a relationship with any spirits."
No, he's not trying to raise awareness on environmental issues..:
"I just enjoy the beauty of nature."

And even though Matt seems to be pretty down to earth about his own work and processes, I myself must say it surely brings a 'dreamscape' and a certain psychological angle to mind..:

What is in these people's heads...?
What keeps them awake at night..?
What worries them..?
What have they gone through...?
What do they love..?

It is often said that there are two sides to every story, and this certainly applies to every tale on romantic relationships. Look at any piece of romantic fiction and you will find situations where a female character sees something in a certain way while her male love has a completely different point of view. It’s all about how individuals uniquely interpret the facts of a situation. There are numerous natural misunderstandings that happen between members of the opposite sex all the time and these are often a result of characters interpreting situations purely from their own perspectives. That is also what makes this series of images by the young photographer Anya Schiller (1988, Russia) so interesting. Similar to what authors do in romance novels, by smart juxtaposition and sequencing, she engineers a deliberate twist to drive the story forward.
